Borne on the FM waves of the Heart
Spring always gets my creative juices flowin' I get that crafting itch. I make delicious dishes. I paint I sew. I basically make shit happen that has been dormant for most of the winter. Most importantly I working at bettering myself physically. In a mere two months I am committing to running Seattle's 5K Color vibe! I honestly have never trained for anything in my life. Its not so much a race as a good long walk with friends! Better yet highly pigmented cornstarch greets you at each kilometer!
Who could say no to that?
I started brew Kombucha about a month ago and i can admit it was something I've been shunning for years. To an outside party its just plain gross growing bacteria in a murky jar of tea and consuming said tea. I bought it once in 2009 and it was vial. mostly because I had never drank beer and had no idea what it was supposed to taste like. Gave it two good sips and said not for me.
Fast forward and my bestest of friends tells me she has begun her continuous brewing system behind her couch. I agreed to try because she made it and just to have an adult opinion of it. It was delicious! sweet but tangy with a hint of apple cider vinegar! Overall refreshing! I was hooked and begged her for a Scoby of my own to brew my own elixir.
I scoured the internet for Kombucha 101 and most of it was unbearably vague. Good News is it's not rocket science.
Brew a gallon of black or green tea, add a cup of sugar and cool
Slip that jelly pancake of probiotic goodness in there and leave it in a cool dark place for three weeks.
another two weeks in sealed bottles and voila! delicious Kombucha full of many helpful little critter that help balance Ph, Increase liver function, clear skin, treat cradle cap...the list goes on and on!
this is a baby i grew from some starter tea which was basically all the same steps without a scoby!
Yep! I'm terribly excited about it. Its primarily translucent and at first i thought i had failed until i bravely poked a clean finger in the jar. Success! dumped the cooled tea in and parked it next to its mama under a side table. Highly Recommended!
Happy Spring folks!
Britt.
